Profile of Mr. Ahmed Mohamud Hassan, Director of the Judicial Training Institute(JTI)

Mr. Ahmed Mohamud Hassan is an experienced lawyer with over eight years of legal and professional experience. He is an active member of the Puntland Bar Association.

Mr. Hassan holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law, along with dual Bachelor’s degrees—an LLB (Hons) and a BA (General). He has contributed significantly to drafting and revising various crucial legal frameworks for the Puntland State of Somalia throughout his career. Mainly, he drafted the Puntland Anti-piracy Act and the Prosecutorial Manual. He has also reviewed and revised the Puntland Human Trafficking Act and the Standard Operating Procedures for Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Prosecutorial Units.

In academia, Mr. Hassan has served as both a Dean and Lecturer at the Faculty of Shariah and Law at Puntland State University (PSU). He was also the Director of PSU’s legal aid clinic. In an advisory capacity, he has held the role of Technical Legal Advisor to the Office of the Attorney General in the Puntland State of Somalia and served as a Legal Advisor to the European Union Capacity Building Mission in Somalia’s Field Office in Garowe (EUCAP).

 

At a national level, Mr. Hassan has worked as a Criminal Justice Advisor to the Office of the Attorney General. Additionally, he held the position of Senior Advisor to the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) before he was tapped to become the director of the JTI, a position he currently holds.
